Many people have worked in Outlook for most of their career. They find Reply All without looking, they file mail with Ctrl+Shift+V, and they plan meetings in the Scheduling Assistant. When their organization wants to leave Microsoft, these habits are the real obstacle. A server can be migrated over a weekend. Habits can't.
Lookout is our answer to that. It is an interface for Mustang that looks and works like Outlook: the ribbon with File, Home, Send / Receive, Folder and View, the folder pane, the message list and the reading pane, the KeyTips when you press Alt, and the dialogs people know, from the Rules Wizard to the Trust Center.
What Lookout is
Mustang is a mail, calendar and contacts app for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It is open source, it talks to servers with open standards like JMAP, IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV, and it also connects to Exchange and Microsoft 365. It keeps your data on your computer and your server.
What Lookout isn't
- It isn't Outlook. Microsoft doesn't make, endorse or support it, and it contains no code from Microsoft.
- It isn't a theme. Lookout is a complete interface of its own, with the ribbon, panes and dialogs of Outlook, running on the logic of Mustang.
- It doesn't pretend. If Mustang can't do something yet, like automatic replies or Quick Steps, Lookout leaves the button out.
